StoneX Financial Pty Ltd (SFA) has received approval from New Zealand Financial Markets Authority (FMA) to offer milk price risk management solutions to retail industry participants across the country.

The approval allows StoneX to provide dairy farmers with tools designed to manage exposure to milk price volatility and improve income certainty. The move represents an expansion of StoneX’s agricultural risk management offering into one of the world’s most important dairy markets.

A particular focus will be placed on sharemilkers, who have historically had limited access to hedging solutions despite often carrying significant financial exposure to movements in milk prices.

StoneX Gains New Zealand Approval to Expand Dairy Price Risk Management

Liam Fenton, Global Head of Dairy & Food Group at StoneX, said the company aims to make sophisticated risk management tools more practical and accessible to producers. According to Fenton, the new licence will allow StoneX to bring its experience in commodity risk management directly to farmers facing uncertainty in global dairy markets.

The timing is notable as agricultural commodity markets remain exposed to changing supply, demand, weather, and geopolitical conditions. For dairy producers, sharp movements in milk prices can complicate budgeting, investment decisions, and long-term financial planning.

Matt Manning, Vice President of Commodity Derivatives at StoneX, highlighted sharemilkers as a particularly important group that could benefit from broader access to risk management tools. He said the solutions can help strengthen business resilience while giving producers greater confidence when planning investments and managing their operations.

StoneX is also supporting the initiative with a dedicated digital platform. Available through mobile and desktop devices, the platform is going to simplify the hedging process by presenting product features, pricing, and risk management tools through an intuitive interface.

For New Zealand dairy farmers, the development could make milk price hedging easier to understand and integrate into everyday financial planning. More accessible tools may ultimately give producers greater flexibility in managing volatility and protecting their businesses against unfavorable price movements.
