IG Securities announced that it will make two-factor authentication (2FA) mandatory for all clients beginning in June 2026.
The broker said the decision follows an increase in unauthorized access incidents affecting securities accounts across the financial industry. According to the company, phishing scams and other fraudulent activities have contributed to rising concerns around account security and client protection.
Previously offered as an optional security feature, 2FA will soon become a required part of the login process for all IG Japan customers. Traders who do not complete the setup before the deadline will no longer be able to access their accounts once the new policy comes into effect.
IG Securities also warned clients that support requests are going to rise sharply before and after the implementation date. To avoid delays and account access problems, the broker is encouraging users to activate two-factor authentication as early as possible.
For traders who already enabled 2FA on their accounts, no additional action is required.
Clients who have not yet completed the process will need to install either Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator on their smartphones. After installing one of the authentication apps, users can activate two-factor authentication directly through the settings section of the IG trading application.
The move reflects a broader shift across the online trading and brokerage sector, where firms are tightening cybersecurity measures amid growing threats targeting retail trading accounts. Multi-factor authentication has increasingly become a standard security requirement among brokers, exchanges, and financial service providers handling client funds and sensitive account information.
Japan’s financial sector has also seen stronger attention toward digital security protections following reports of unauthorized account activity and online fraud cases affecting investors and trading clients.
By making two-factor authentication mandatory, IG Securities is aligning with wider industry efforts aimed at strengthening account protection and reducing risks linked to stolen passwords and phishing attacks.
