OANDA Japan sponsorship marks a strategic move to boost brand visibility and support rugby’s growing popularity nationwide. The domestic arm of the global trading giant, OANDA Japan, has entered a sponsorship agreement with the rugby team Tokyo Suntory Sungoliath. The partnership will officially commence on 1 November 2025.

OANDA Japan Sponsorship Enhances Local Engagement

As part of the deal, the OANDA Securities logo will appear on the collar of the official match jerseys worn by the team’s players in Japan Rugby League One 2025–26, set to kick off in December 2025.

“Through this partnership, we aim to enhance the value of the brand further, strongly support Tokyo Suntory Sungoliath in realising their vision of being a ‘strong, beloved team,’ and bring vitality to society through the power of sports,” OANDA Japan’s announcement stated.

Rugby’s Growing Presence in Japan

While baseball remains Japan’s top sport, commanding 19.5 per cent of nationwide followers, followed by football at 11.2 per cent, rugby is gaining momentum. The sport’s visibility surged after Japan hosted the Rugby World Cup (RWC) 2019.

Japan Rugby League One has since seen record growth in both viewership and attendance. The 2023–24 season drew over one million spectators, with 56,486 fans attending the Division 1 final at Tokyo National Stadium. The league’s domestic reach has expanded through DAZN and international broadcasts, including free streaming of the 2024 final for audiences outside Japan.

Tokyo Sungoliath, based at Chichibunomiya Rugby Stadium with a capacity exceeding 27,000, also boasts a significant social media presence, with 42.5K followers on X (formerly Twitter) and 23K on Facebook.

Despite the increasing appeal of rugby among brokers, football continues to dominate sponsorships for brand visibility. OANDA previously collaborated with Polish football icon Robert Lewandowski as a brand ambassador and sponsors the US football club New York Red Bulls, featuring its logo on the team’s jersey sleeves.

Still, OANDA Japan is not alone in its rugby-focused marketing approach. Other retail brokers such as eToro, CMC Markets, and IC Markets have also engaged in sponsorships with regional rugby teams to enhance brand recognition.
